When you read God's Word, it's wise to ask for His help. Here's an example prayer. Lord God, Thank You for Your amazing, transformational Word. Thank You it is living, active, powerful, and sharper than a two-edged sword. Please open my eyes so that I may see wonderful things in Your Word. Open my mind so that I may understand. Open my ears that I may hear. Help me hear Your heart.
A.W. Tozer once said, "What God in His Sovereignty may yet do on a world scale I do not claim to know, but what He will do for the plain man or woman who seeks His face I believe I do know and can tell others. Let anyone turn to God in earnest, let him begin to exercise himself unto godliness, let him seek to develop his powers of spiritual receptivity, by trust and obedience and humility, and the results will exceed anything he may have hoped in his leaner years and weaker days."
It's actually incredible the God of all creation listens to us. By the Word of the LORD the Heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded and it stood fast. (Psalm 33:6) He spoke the stars into being. He numbers them and calls them by name. If that doesn't astound you nothing ever will. Can we even begin to comprehend the greatness and power of God?
God's is here. The Universe pulsates with His power. In the beginning He spoke, and out of chaos came incredible order and beauty. When His Voice spoke, nothing became something. His voice spoke light and love into being. Darkness became dazzling light.
That God is here and He is speaking is undeniable. His design and creativity shout from all of creation. He talks to mankind through His book. "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12) The Word of God is living. It is powerful. So amazing. Everything we need for life and godliness is in God's Word. The power of God reverberates through His Word.
I heard of a woman lying in a hospital bed who was informed she would be dead by morning. As she lay on the bed, probably wondering when she would die, she saw fiery letters blazed across the wall.
The next morning, that woman walked out of the hospital. God's Word is powerful. It is living. Active. Sharper than a two-edged sword. A.W. Towzer said, "God did not write a book and send it by messenger to be read at a distance by unaided minds. He spoke a book, and lives in His spoken Words, causing the power of them to persist across the years." As you read God's Word you are transformed into His image. How cool is that? Blessings, Beloved.
