Dear “Present You”,
This is a message to you on behalf of “Future You”. They want you to know life goes by shockingly quickly. One moment — one decision at a time — your present will quickly become your past. Before you know it you will be looking back at the choices that marked your life. Those decisions will determine your character and ultimately your destiny.
“Future You” wants you to live life fully while realizing it could be gone in a heartbeat. “You do not know what shall be tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” (James 4:14)
“Future You” advises you to make choices to be loving and kind every day. Help others. Smile more. Make memories you can look back on with joy and not regret. Value people more than things. Laugh lots. Get enough sleep so you aren’t exhausted and crabby. I am to ask you to brush and floss your teeth so you can keep them. “Future You” doesn’t want gum disease or to wear dentures.
Future You wants you to please read books to give your imagination a chance to soar. You don’t need to have all your time absorbed by watching TV or playing video games. “Future You” doesn’t want you to look back at your life and be saddened by all the wasted hours.
“Future You” doesn’t want you to be straddled with disease because of poor health choices. I am asking you to please eat healthy (as much as possible--but, if someone offers you dark chocolate, it would be rude not to eat it....haha) and please exercise.
“Future You” emphasizes you must treat others as you would want to be treated – with kindness and compassion. Be gracious and honest in your dealings with others. Let your word be valued. Don’t criticize or disrespect another human being. When there are issues that need forgiving for Heaven’s sake forgive. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Let your words be words of integrity.
“Future You” asks you to please avoid filling your life with debt. There’s no sensible reason to do that. It may seem like a good idea now but it can create havoc for “Future You”.
This is a stern warning from “Future You”. You have no idea the chaos and ruin that can happen if you mess with sexual immorality. It may seem exciting and enticing now, but it will come back to bite you with a vengeance and “Future You” doesn’t want to live with regret, shame and remorse. You may think it’s okay, no big deal, it won’t hurt anyone, no one will know. Wrong!!! It will affect your reputation, your family, your soul and your future. Guard your heart and body or the enemy will seduce you to destroy you. If you guard your heart and your body you don’t have to worry about unwanted pregnancies and STDs. You don’t have to be grieved that you chose to abort a life and that you destroyed someone else’s future. May all your babies be wanted and loved.
“Future You” wants you to love and treasure your spouse. That is your greatest chance for happiness. The intimacy and connection you are searching for elsewhere are actually before your eyes. This is critical that you listen. “Flee fornication (sex outside of marriage). Every other sin that a man (or woman) does is without the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18) God will forgive you, but the reproach (disgrace and scorn)—will be a scar on your heart for the rest of your life.
So, dear “Present You”, making choices to live healthier body, soul and spirit now will help “Future You” have a better life. Ask God to be with you now. His plans for you are to "give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). If you have a past you regret, ask Him to cleanse you and create in you a clean heart. He can and He will. You can be transformed. It’s not too late to create a better future. “Future You” wants you to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1). Trust Him. Commit your life to Him. He loves you more than you can possibly imagine.
"Future You" wants you to know even though your road may be dark or difficult, God will be a lamp to your feet and a light to your path. He will never leave you or forsake you. "Future You" wants you to hear the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord." (Matthew 25:23) Blessings, Beloved of God. PS "Future You" says thank you.
