"Make my life a prayer to You..." — Keith Green
God, that would be so amazing.
What is Prayer?
I think it is simply speaking with the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists. But I believe there is more. Could our lives really become a prayer? We are told to pray without ceasing. How is that possible?
The Heart-to-Heart Connection
Often words seem so inadequate. There are times when we don't know how to describe what is on our hearts. God understands; He hears our hearts. I believe prayer is communion between our hearts and God's heart.

He is a God who speaks back. He reaches us through:
His Word
Other people
Life's circumstances
His creation
Quiet impressions
It is a lifeline. Even when we feel alone, He is there. We are never alone.

Abiding in the Vine
Jesus is quoted in John 15:5 as saying:
"I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
I believe that.
We are a dead branch if we are cut off from the source of life. There is nothing we can do of any eternal value apart from God's enabling.
But, how do we abide? We abide in Him by spending time with Him—talking with our beloved Saviour. That is the heart of the relationship. That's how we hear His heart.
A Journey Together
I have not arrived. I am not speaking to you from some lofty spiritual mountain; I am learning just like you. We are on this journey together.
A Heart of Compassion
Because prayer connects us to God’s heart, we begin to feel His grief for those who don’t yet know Him. Sadly, many on the threshold of eternity have no desire to know the One who made them. Imagine their horror when they stand before the One they rejected. May we pray with compassion that this scene doesn't happen for others. God takes no delight in the death of the wicked. I am sure God is grieved by the evil so prevalent in our world. He asks us to pray so that lives and situations can be transformed. I don't presume to understand why God asks us to pray—He doesn't need us, but we desperately need Him.
A Prayer Today: Dear God, please help me pray constantly. May I see through Your eyes of compassion and love. Help me pray for the needs of others as You reveal them. Oh God, please fill my heart with Your love and give me a bigger picture of You and what prayer means. Please give me a heart that prays. I pray that talking with You, the Creator of all that is, will become as natural for me as breathing. He loves us so much we can't even imagine the depths of His love.
Blessings, Beloved of God.
