I realize this is not an exciting topic to write about — but, I believe it's what God wants me to share with you. Feelings of sadness, dark spiritual attacks, disappointments, loneliness, lack of faith, being betrayed by those who should have loved you, coping with health issues or physical pain, can sneak up and pounce on you. Life isn't always easy. Feelings of sadness, emptiness, guilt, anger, worthlessness, hopelessness, restlessness, irritability, withdrawal, avoiding others, sleep changes, thoughts of harming yourself, changes in appetite or weight, can all be signs of depression — but, there is hope.

King David, the one who killed the giant, Goliath, had times when he was depressed. I guess if your father-in-law was hunting you to kill you, you would be depressed too. He wrote, "Why are you in despair, my soul? And why are you restless within me? Wait for God, for I will again praise Him. The help of my countenance and my God." Psalm 43:5

To be healthy we need to eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, and exercise. Exercise releases endorphins — happy hormones — that can help fight depression. I've found time with God -- reading His Word, talking with Him, to be the best stress busters ever. Even crying releases toxins and stress from your body. "From the end of the earth will I cry unto God, when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety." Psalm 61:2

Did you know this season can actually make you a stronger person — with more grace, compassion, and empathy for yourself and others? Honestly, it doesn't matter how we feel — our reality needs to be based on God and His Word. "For you have been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy." Psalm 61:3

Basically, if you want to change your life you must change your thinking. "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things." Philippians 4:8 The Bible also says, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." Proverbs 23:7 God wants us to have pure, innocent thoughts.

I pray your future will be one of hope. I realize we are living in dark days, but Jesus didn't keep that information hidden from us. He said, "These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33 Be encouraged. This depression will pass. God is with you. He is for you. He loves you. Blessings, Beloved of God.
