The Lions' Den

Updated: Jun 19

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he will devour. Whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world." 1 Peter 5:8-9

Daniel was in a predicament. He had been framed by a group of jealous princes in ancient Babylon. (Spoiler alert ~ they didn't realize the trap they were setting would eventually spring on them.)

King Darius foolishly decreed only he could be petitioned for thirty days. The law set by a king of the Medes and Persians could not be altered. Anyone disobeying this law would be thrown into a den of lions. Daniel could either obey the law of the land or obey the law of a higher Kingdom. He wisely obeyed the God of Heaven, and continued to pray to God three times a day (in front of an open window). There was a cost for his allegiance. That very night, Daniel was thrown into a den of (most likely very hungry) lions.

King Darius realized he had been tricked by his advisors and said something profound to Daniel. "Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you". Daniel 6:16 The king spent the night fasting and (I presume) asking God to rescue Daniel. In the morning King Darius came to the den and cried out (in a lamentable voice), "O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continuously, able to deliver you from the lions?" Daniel 6:20

The king must have rejoiced to hear Daniel call out, "My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: because before Him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no wrong." Daniel 6:22 Daniel could have been killed—but courageously faced the lions—knowing he was in God's hands. When you face lions in your life, please don't back down. God is more than able to deliver you from death. If he chooses not to, your life will continue in eternity. Either way you win and God is glorified.

King Darius then proclaimed "I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, and steadfast forever; His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed, and His dominion shall endure to the end. He delivers and rescues, and He works signs and wonders in Heaven and on Earth, Who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions." Daniel 6:26-27.

I know the lions can look incredibly mean and extremely hungry. It really does look like you will be eaten up—BUT—God delivered Daniel from the power of the lions and He can deliver you. I pray you will trust Him.

As a child of God, you have the lion of the tribe of Judah caring for you. He loves you. Please leave a comment ~ I'd love to hear your thoughts. (Scroll down to find comments). Please leave a comment. Blessings, Beloved of God.
